Asclera is a prescription medication used to treat varicose veins. The medication works by increasing the formation of blood clots and scar tissue inside different types of veins. In addition, Asclera helps decrease the enlargement of veins. Asclera is used to treat small uncomplicated varicose and spider veins. Asclera does not treat varicose veins larger than 3 millimeters or about one-eighth of an inch in diameter. Asclera is injected directly into a spider or varicose vein with a small sterile needle. It is best to receive this treatment in a clinic or hospital setting in case of complications. The number of injections you receive depends on how many spider or varicose veins are treated. Asclera is slowly injected into the vein with only slight pressure. If you feel any burning pain or swelling around the needle during the injection, immediately inform your caregiver. You will be monitored closely after the injection to ensure there are no harmful effects.
After the injection, a compression bandage or compression stocking must be used on the leg to prevent blood clots from forming. You may also need to walk around the clinic for 15 or 20 minutes. Take daily walks for a few days after the treatment to ensure no side effects.

Repeat treatments may be necessary if the varicose or spider veins are not dissolved within a prescribed amount of time. Therefore, these treatments are separated by one to two weeks.
